The Office of Global Affairs (OGA) is a catalyst and a hub for all things global at the UW, connecting the diverse internal and external networks of scholars, students, and community leaders engaged with international issues. OGA's major activities include:

---Initiating and supporting scholarly research on global issues across campus units and departments, disseminating information about relevant faculty expertise, funding opportunities, and institutional ties abroad.
---Providing a portal through which external stakeholders -- including business leaders, government officials, non-governmental organization representatives, international alumni, and ethnic and cultural affinity communities -- can learn about and participate in UW global activities and resources.
---Serving as a central guide and resource for developing and successfully implementing study abroad programs, international research collaborations, and foreign institutional partnerships.
---Supporting UW community members in planning and carrying out international education, research and community engagement in a safe and productive manner.

To facilitate these functions, OGA has five main areas of responsibility: administration of study abroad and exchanges; support for international research; oversight of UW's centers and offices abroad; management of UW international relations and protocols; and coordination of strategic initiatives in the key areas of global health, global environment, global technology, global development challenges, and global cultural change.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Global Travel Support Coordinator (GTSS). This position has 5 main duties:

---Coordinate and develop the UW's Global Travel Security Program, with particular focus on study abroad programming
---Verify, track and support UW student, faculty and staff participation in international health insurance and travel assistance programs
---Monitor and support health, safety, and security of UW students, faculty and staff engaged in study, research and other University business abroad
---Provide backup on call support and continuity to the UW's Global Travel Security Manager and the 24 hour Global Travel Security Program
---Support in the development of health, safety, and security trainings and present on UW's Global Travel Security Program

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the maintenance and development of the Office of Global Affairs Global Travel Security activities, including:

---Together with the GTSM, maintain and improve the content of OGA's travel security webpages.
---Maintain statistics on the number, type and severity of reported incidents that occur abroad.
---Maintain and update backend mechanics used in the Travel Registry.
---Improve and Promote the use of the Travel Registry, including the collection, tracking and compliance of new and existing faculty/staff/graduate student registration for international travel.
---Monitor and maintain situational awareness regarding political, health, safety and security conditions of all overseas locations where the university has a presence. Provide relevant information to travelers as needed.
Provide direct service and consultation regarding health, safety and security for faculty, staff and students traveling abroad on UW business or for UW credit, including:

---Plan, develop, and implement safety and security training through workshops and orientation programs for administrators, faculty and professional groups involved in study abroad.
---Review study abroad program proposals, health and safety plans and student health surveys and follow-up as appropriate.
---Respond to internal/external questions regarding travel registration, health, safety and security abroad, and serve as a resource person for students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators.
---Assist GTSM in ensuring that the latest global emergency preparedness and response information is available for students, faculty and staff and distributed through appropriate channels and media formats.
---Assist in the development of informational materials for the campus community.

Handle emergency response coordination, including but not limited to engaging on-campus partners, UW's international insurance provider, and managing communication with students and emergency contacts.

---Must be available after hours on a rotating basis to be UW's first point of contact for all crises abroad that happen to UW faculty, staff and/or students who are traveling on university business or participating in educational activities for credit.
---Assist in the development and implementation of emergency management processes, plans and procedures.

Vet student requests for waivers of the UW Study Abroad insurance purchase requirement.

---Verify student enrollment in appropriate international insurance.
---Serve as a primary OGA contact for student, faculty and staff insurance inquiries.
---Assist with the collection of insurance data.

Partner with campus stakeholders (facilitate traveler health and safety through access to information, expertise and resources.
---Occasionally serve as representative for UW's Global Travel Security Program on campus committees and within national higher education professional networks.
---Liaise with on-campus partners regarding U.S. legislation concerning Student Affairs

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree and two to three years experience, with strong administrative or operations management skills and emergency management experience or training.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

---Demonstrated experience in handling high pressure situations with little or no direct support or supervision.
---Experience working with and/or advising students, faculty and staff
---Experience handling emergencies for a higher education institution
---Experience as a trainer and public speaker
---International experience
