We focus on the health problems that have a major impact in developing countries but get too little attention and funding. Where proven tools exist, we support sustainable ways to improve their delivery. Where they don't, we are uniquely positioned to invest in research and development of new interventions, such as vaccines, drugs, and diagnostics. Our work in infectious diseases focuses on strategies to fight and prevent HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases, enteric and diarrheal diseases, and pneumonia. These strategies are supported by functional teams that focus on Discovery and Translational Sciences, Vaccine Development, Integrated Development, and the Office of the President and Strategy Planning and Management. These functional teams in Global Health also support strategies for MNCH diseases, Women's Health, and Family Planning even though they are now programmatically part of the Gender Equality Division.The Integrated Portfolio Management Team (IPM) within the Office of the President and Strategy Planning and Management department is tasked with maximizing the health impact of our product development investment portfolio, which is similar in size to the largest pharmaceutical companies. We do this by modeling the value/impact and the risk of most products in our R&D pipeline which leadership uses to guide the foundation's health investment strategy. The team also provides market analytics support for product and launch planning, as well as product introduction, predominantly for innovative products where channels to market in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are immature or lacking all together, e.g., therapeutics, in vitro diagnostics, medical devices, nutrition and microbial interventions.Your RoleWe are looking for an exceptional Senior Program Officer (SPO) to lead and build capability for data acquisition, market analytics development and modeling/forecasting for new innovative products. In addition to building these capabilities you will ensure that the organization has the appropriate information/data to make informed and timely investment decisions related to human health interventions, mainly by providing insights into the markets and consumers, developing robust forecasts and health impact analyses of innovative product introductions.The role offers a unique opportunity to have an impact by providing insights through the optimization of product and launch planning for products that will save lives and reduce suffering in the world's low- and middle-income countries.The position will report to the Deputy Director, Integrated Portfolio Management and is either Seattle-based or remote within United States.What You'll Do

  • Establish, and maintain a catalog of unique market data (public and private) relevant for launch planning and introduction of innovative interventions
  • Collaborate with Program Strategy Teams and Product Introduction staff to frame analytical questions required to inform critical strategy and investment decisions.
  • Build capability to conduct quick market surveys that can inform product development as well as product introduction
  • Develop tools to analyze market data, including volumes, pricing, distribution channels, across therapeutics, in vitro diagnostics, medical devices, nutrition and microbial interventions.
  • Develop and run modeling frameworks for analysis of product launch scenarios with respect to population targeting, impact assessment, cost effectiveness evaluation, and demand forecasting
  • Develop tools to make models accessible to all stakeholders, allowing them to adjust parameters and visualize the impact on product introduction scenarios
  • Carry out research on relevant academic papers and global health studies to inform assumptions needed to implement health intervention models.
  • Drive continuous improvement of business planning and market assessments to increase overall productivity of the analytics function.
  • Develop presentation materials and be able to effectively communicate key subject matter to internal and external collaborators.
  • Manage contractors or other external partners in support of above responsibilitiesYour Experience
    • Ph.D., Masters or MBA with 10 years of experience including 5 years of experience in market analytics and/or health economic models (candidates with less experience will be considered for a Program Officer role).
    • Broad understanding of and experience from emerging/global health markets
    • Proficiency with spreadsheet modeling, simulation, data analysis, statistics/econometrics, modelling in R and/or Python, and other quantitative skills.
    • Demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills including experience assembling, organizing and analyzing information, extracting insights and communicating findings.
    • Knowledge of life sciences, epidemiology and biostatistics techniques used in global health.Other Attributes

      • Experience in working with limited data sources a plus.
      • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills to effectively calibrate input and synthesize information to connect with varied and diverse audiences.
      • Strategic problem-solving skills to structure the analysis needed to address a complex and ambiguous question, within the resources and time constraints provided.
