Description:Floyd-Snider is looking to add an Environmental Planner to our collaborative team. We're looking for someone who exemplifies our commitment to technical excellence, environmental responsibility, and customer service. The primary role is to lead or assist in developing permitting plans and strategies that meet client needs and balance regulatory requirements. You'll use your knowledge of environmental regulations to put together strategic, complete applications. Here's our list of must-haves:

  • Degree in environmental science, planning, policy, or a related field
  • 4 - 8 years of experience with environmental reviews and permitting
  • Demonstrated experience with federal, state, and local permitting
  • Strong familiarity with in-water permitting using Joint Aquatic Resources Permit Applications, Comprehensive land use and shoreline development permit applications, and SEPA and NEPA documentation
  • Ability to review engineering drawings, construction documents, and other technical studies
  • Strong writing skills and experience writing in a professional context
  • Ability to plan and facilitate client and partner meetings
  • Consulting experience in the Puget Sound region Pay and Benefits This is a full-time, permanent position. Planners with 4 - 5 years of experience earn $82.5K - $90K annually and have the position title of Environmental Planner I, while planners with 6 - 10 years of experience earn $90K - $110K annually and have the position title of Environmental Planner II. We also offer 11 paid holidays and 20 days of paid time off per year. Floyd-Snider provides employees with a flexible work schedule that includes core hours 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Most staff are expected to work onsite 2 - 3 days per week, depending on their distance from our office. Project work may require you to work more than your standard billable work week, but Floyd-Snider provides extra time off to recognize this effort. Regional travel is a small part of this role. You won't typically go more than 3 hours away, and we'll cover your expenses. The DetailsBeyond your relevant expertise, we're looking for someone with the following skills:
    • Critical thinking - you ask probing questions and synthesize complex information to understand the project and its context, then develop that into a strategic permitting approach.
    • Detail-oriented - the information you'll handle can be dense, the regulations are complex, and the projects are all different. You take care to review the details, because you know that details make a successful application.
    • Deadline-driven - our work is often on a critical path for clients, so our schedules can be compressed. You love a deadline and rise to the occasion when the pressure is on. Anything on this list would be an asset, but is not required:
      • Qualification as a junior Biological Assessment author with WSDOT
      • Experience with natural resources mitigation planning
      • Experience with wetland or OHWM delineations
      • Experience preparing and/or reviewing environmental compliance plans We work with a range of municipal, port, state, and private clients with a variety of project proposals and a particular focus on infrastructure or habitat projects along the water's edge. You'll work directly with regulatory agencies early in the process to confirm the approach for approval, understand key points of compliance or potential environmental impacts, and what is needed in your applications to satisfy their specific requirements. You'll love the level of interaction you have with clients and partners. The scope of contact will be much broader than you might find elsewhere.
