spaceflight!This role is part of the New Shepard program. New
Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take
astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the
internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational
reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost
of access to space.As part of a hardworking team of diverse
specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be part of
defining systems, integrating the design, development, test, build,
and operation of various spaceflight systems for New Shepard. You
will ensure that we achieve our goals by applying and growing your
systems engineering skills to impact the development and expansion
of the system. You will be involved in all phases of the product
development cycle and work closely with Lead System Engineers,
System Architects, technical and nontechnical collaborators. We
will directly impact the history of space exploration and will
require your dedication and detailed attention towards safe and
repeatable spaceflight!Responsibilities include, but are not
limited to:Performing engineering activities in accordance with
system engineering standards and practices to complete assigned
tasks such as:
- Developing concept of operations, requirements (software and
hardware), functional decomposition, system verification,
validation, integration, test, and operation
- Participating in, and leading project evaluations
- Developing test plans
- Defining system behaviors within a system architecture
- Developing strategies for specialty engineering (operability,
reliability, maintainability, supportability), integration,
analysis and verification
- Supporting requirements-based verification
- Identifying and resolving gaps in existing process, tools,
infrastructure, and continually improving solutions along the
way
- Supporting problem report and root cause investigations and
dispositions
- Conducting change impact analyses
- Developing system safety analyses and associated deliverables,
such as FMECAs, FTAs, and FHAs
- Supporting launch operations and mission readiness for the
human-rated New Shepard vehicles
- Applying Systems Engineering, PLM, and development tools such
as DOORS, JIRA, Confluence, Windchill, Creo, and SharePoint.
- Collaborating plans and development activities within

mission and vision is required!Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Math,
or Physics.
- Proven system development and integration experience -
preferably within the aerospace industry or working directly with
safety critical systems
- Familiar with both hardware and software development processes
for complex software embedded systems - for example avionics
systems, spacecraft command and control systems, automotive control
and information systems, robotic platforms, and autonomous
transportation systems.
- Industry experience in Systems Engineering tools and
processes
- Ability to navigate development activities optimally and
independently when there is ambiguity associated with methods and
processes
- Self-directed and capable of balancing several tasks at one
time.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work optimally and collaborate in a dynamic,
fast paced, team-oriented environment.
- Travel expected up to 10% of the time
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional
relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident
(current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as
a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful candidates typically have 8-15 years of aerospace
engineering experience.
- Experience in design, analysis, test, operation, and/or
certification of aerospace safety critical systems.
- Experience with software and hardware architectures involving
complex embedded software
- Experience supporting a project throughout all phases of the
product development lifecycle
- Experience with development tools such as DOORS,
MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill
- Experience in reliability, maintainability and supportability
definition and execution
- System Safety analysis experience including but not limited to
FMECAs, FTAs, and FHAs
- Basic project management skills including labor estimating and
schedule management
