DescriptionPosition Title: Social Service CoordinatorLocation: Federal Way CorpsStatus: Non-exemptCompensation: $20.00 an hourA generous benefits package is included with full-time positions: paid holidays, vacation time, sick time, and medical, vision, and dental insurances.Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums ($34.62) for employee only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside of a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) optionsParental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee's normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months' service time.Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions.   • Minimum 2 years experience in Social Services work
  • Basic knowledge of The Salvation Army's beliefs, structure andKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
    • Must be able to effectively and sensitively work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
    • Must be able to lead and give direction (i.e., volunteers)
    • Detail-oriented and attention to detail
    • Self-starter
    • Team player
    • Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication. Excellent telephone skill
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure. Customer service mindset
    • Proficient typing skills (60 words per minute)
    • Ability and willingness to keep the information confidential.SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
      • Microsoft Word and Excel required
      • Knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.SCOPE OF POSITION:Coordinate direct social service and support to clients. Operate food pantry. Tutor after-school children and help to provide a safe, orderly, and supportive atmosphere.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
        • Answer phones & return messages
        • Greet clients & all visitors to determine their needs
        • Coordinate referrals of clients to agencies that may be able to assist.
        • Maintain food bank, filled food boxes, and coordinated distribution
        • Coordinate all donations for the food bank
        • Coordinate all food purchasing for the foodbank and holiday meals.
        • Conduct all client intake appointments.
        • Coordinate distribution of PSE, Rental, Burnout, & Midway Sewer vouchers.
        • Work with corps Officer in planning and implementing seasonal activities, i.e., Easter,
        • Holiday client intake
        • Oversee setup and take down of Holiday event sites, i.e., Toy n Joy, Giving Tree, etc.
        • Act as point of contact for gift-in-kind donations, offer receipts, and record gifts.
        • Oversee, organize, and plan the distribution of Thanksgiving meals and Christmas items.
        • Act as contact for Safety Committee
        • Prepare and teach Sunday School
        • Teach Troops, Adventure Corps, Sunbeams, Girl
        • Prepare all Social Services Reports
        • Act as Social Services contact for all other organizations, potential GIK donors, and agencies that send referrals to the corps
        • Create physical files as needed; maintain all files and filing systems
        • Participate in regular staff meetingsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
          • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
          • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files and file cabinet drawers and reach overhead
          • Ability to operate a telephone
          • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
          • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes).
          • Ability to access and produce information from a computer
