Education - Bachelor's Degree Skills - Excel - Tableau - Communication Skills The Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL)'s mission is to ensure that all Seattle children have the greatest opportunity to succeed in school and in life and to graduate from school ready for college and a career. Currently, DEEL works to achieve this mission by administering the Seattle Preschool Program and the Families and Education Levy, among other programs, and acts as the City's liaison with Seattle Public Schools. As a representative of the Mayor and City Council, DEEL invests in programming to improve student outcomes and measures performance by tracking specific academic indicators. DEEL develops and administers performance contracts and agreements for services, oversees contract implementation, monitors progress towards achieving outcomes, and provides support, guidance, and direction to grantees as necessary. DEEL is a data-driven organization that practices ongoing quality improvement based on results. To support the mission of this department, DEEL is seeking a highly motivated self-starter, with a strong work ethic and a passion for continuous learning and improvement, to act as a Temporary Data Advisor who will play an integral role in the data team's effort to efficiently and effectively support DEEL's Early Learning and K-12 divisions in improving student outcomes. In this role, you will support DEEL's leadership and divisions, along with their stakeholders, by maintaining a largely project-based and dynamic workload with a wide array of responsibilities, including analyzing data, summarizing results, and communicating results and recommendations to key internal and external stakeholders. This position offers you the opportunity to effect positive change in the educational experiences of Seattle's youth as part of a dynamic team working in a fast-paced environment. Job Responsibilities:Here's more of what you'll be doing: Conducting analyses and presenting results to inform discussions and decision-making regarding the City's early education, K-12, and post-secondary attainment strategies, as well as strategic planning efforts for the Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise (FEPP) Levy Supporting the use of a racial equity lens in data preparation, interpretation, analysis, and reporting to inform policy decisions and program implementation Implementing and maintaining a performance monitoring and data cleaning regime for multiple programs by: creating and maintaining Tableau workbooks using complex joins and calculations (fixed, table, etc.) and publishing them to Tableau server; working with IT staff to periodically update Tableau server user list and troubleshoot refresh issues; and incorporating stakeholder feedback to improve workbook activity Analyzing data for trends and process improvement opportunities. Collaborating strategically with department divisions to develop and track annual performance outcomes and indicators for early learning and K-12 investments Displaying complex data and information in a simple, visual, and understandable format for internal and external stakeholders using business intelligence tools including Tableau and MS Excel Completing ad hoc data analysis requests in a timely and efficient manner Your effectiveness in this role will depend on your ability to: Handle and prioritize a heavy workload while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines Successfully participate in a customer service environment and work independently, as well as on a team Be an active, positive, and contributing member of a team Take responsibility for the accuracy and timeliness of your work You will be prepared for this role if you have the following knowledge and skills: Excellent technical skills in Microsoft Excel Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing Data analysis and visualization You will be most successful in this role if you have experience in any of the below areas: Intermediate to advanced skills in Tableau Conducting research and analysis to solve problems with minimum supervision Qualifications: In ition to the ability to perform the tasks described above, you will need to possess the below required qualifications (or a combination of education, training or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class): Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Education, Information Technology, or a related field.
