We are looking for builders with a wide range of talent to join our team; could you be the next employee of Hoffman?JOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION SUMMARY: The Mechanical Estimator will analyze project design and construction documents to determine the needs of various projects, provide solutions to increase profitability and prepare project cost estimates.PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:* Setup and maintenance of job cost reports (including budgets, commitments, forecast, yet to buys, contingency and spends)* Track costs by bid package, field order and specific category of change (defined by client)* Setup and maintain project indicators (including visual graphics)* Develop and prepare Preconstruction Status Report including narrative, executive cost reports, project cost indicators, cash flow projections, schedule and logistics plans.* Monthly reconciliation of project cost reports* Work with subcontractors and equipment vendors to validate budgets* Interpretation of design and construction documents, technical manuals and quantifying materials required for construction from the documents.* Experienced in on screen take off procedures* Writing and publishing meeting minutes* Summarizing quantities of materials in an orderly fashion* Organization and filing of record documents* Information storage and retrieval using computer* Provide clear communication verbally, written and electronicallyESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:* Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is combination of sitting/walking and standing* Legs: Must be able to climb stairs - 20% of day* Hands/Arms: Constant use of hands/fingers for mouse/keyboard/computer use* Vision: Visual acuity in near, mid and far-range vision. Color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, hand/eye coordination* Hearing: Sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone and radio; sufficient to hear alarms on equipment* Speech: Sufficient to make oneself heard in person, speak in front of groups, and be understood over the telephone and radio* Lift/Carry: Up to 20lb computer/drawings- Minimal* Bending/Twisting: Minimal* Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: MinimalMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:* Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail required* Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and follow through on all assignments* Must use creativity, independent judgment, and organizational and problem-solving skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results* Must be able to plan and organize work to maintain high level of production* Must possess strong mathematical, organizational, and computer use skills; have a high level of competency to read/write/speak English, interpret construction related documentation and communicate with coworkers.QUALIFICATIONS:* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent degree or equivalent work experience* Education background in materials and methods of construction* 5 years construction estimating experience* Mechanical estimating experience specifically in commercial, healthcare, industrial, water treatment and/or hi-tech type of projects* Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method; familiar with CSI specification system for various scopes of work.* Skills in handling several work activities at once while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions on work in progress.* Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.* Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work closely with project owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors and subcontractors.* Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience, and professionalism are essential to being able to maintain a cooperative attitude through pressure situations.* LEED accreditation preferred, or someone who is willing to become certified in 18-24 months* Proficient in the following programs: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and Outlook) and Bluebeam. Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Microsoft Project and Primavera Project Planner(P6). Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.* Ability to multitask activities while simultaneously taking calls and providing responses to urgent questions* Must be able to work closely with owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors and subcontractors* Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation.* Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills* Self-starter, quick learner, team leader, problem solver and ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations* Flexible work schedule to allow extended periods of overtime or off-shift work to accommodate changing workloads and bid scheduleApplication review will consider without limitation the following criteria: qualifications, education and experience specific to the job description/duties as well as prior experience with Hoffman Construction.
