The University of Washington Continuum College (UWC -) has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Analyst in our Finance Department.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role utilizes professional financial analysis to support a variety of activities to ensure accurate financial statements, operational efficiency, timely ledger reconciliation, and Continuum's overall financial health. This role will ensure leadership has information necessary to make organizational and programmatic decisions.

Success in this role requires

  • The ability to work harmoniously within a cross-departmental team structure to identify and solve complex problems, while respecting the thoughts and opinions of colleagues, and ensuring buy-in from key stakeholders.
  • Comfort performing tasks that require critical analysis, making recommendations to leadership, and representing the finance team in meetings.
  • Regular collaboration with colleagues and reviewing the work of others.

    Financial Analysis, Process Improvement, Change Support
  • Perform, evaluate, and review complex fiscal analysis to proactively identify issues and areas of concern and recommend/implement course(s) of action.
  • Ensure financial statements are accurate and provide a transparent picture of the overall health of Continuum.
  • Use a variety of data sources to facilitate financial analysis, reporting, and data verification. Examples include, but are not limited to, SQL, Tableau, and UW data stores.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting to reconcile various ledger accounts for clearing previously outstanding entries.
  • Lead the adoption of analytic tools to improve the efficiency and accuracy of workflow stemming from UW and UWC - databases.
  • Participate in projects to reduce operational inefficiencies, reduce error rates, and improve logistics for UWC - Finance.
  • Review and approve journal entries.
  • Assist with daily accounting and reporting responsibilities of the General Accounting team.

    Workday Implementation, (go live July 2023)
  • Participate in the adoption of Workday as UW's new finance and accounting system.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and reconciliation between integrated systems.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of the Foundation Data Model.
  • Support other colleagues through the transition to new systems, such as Adaptive .
  • Other duties as required.


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field and four years of applicable experience.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.


  • Demonstrated experience analyzing fiscal data and financial reporting.
  • Preparation and presentation of fiscal information to senior management.
  • Experience in creating, maintaining, and using relational databases and complex spreadsheet models.
  • Ability to make logical decisions using sound, professional judgment and articulate rationale.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
  • Reconciliation of financial data.


  • Demonstrated expertise in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.
